A Nakuru police officer, identified as Constable Nicholas Musau, has been apprehended for allegedly shooting a barmaid and injuring three others after a dispute over an unpaid bill.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 13, 2023, when Constable Musau reportedly refused to settle a bill of Sh16,000, leading to a confrontation with the barmaid.

In a report seen by Nairobi News, the disagreement became violent when the officer threatened to shoot dead the barmaid, identified as Ms Ann Maina, and when other revelers intervened, he reached out for his gun and started shooting.

The officer attached to Nakuru Central Police Station went ahead and shot dead the barmaid and, in the process, also injured three others.

Immediately after the shootout, the officer left the scene and went into hiding but was smoked out from there by his colleagues, who locked him up at the Kaptembwa Police Station in Nakuru County.

A pistol, which had two rounds of ammunition, was also recovered from him, and it is believed to be the killer weapon.

Also at the scene, police officers found six spent cartridges, which have also been kept as exhibits.

Police also revealed that the woman is currently undergoing surgery to retrieve a bullet from her body while the two men are in a stable condition.
