Pastor sparks outrage for ordering worshipers to drink poisoned water
A South African pastor has sparked outrage after encouraging his congregation to drink deadly rat poison ‘in a show of faith’.
Pastor Light Monyeki of Grace Living Hope Ministries told worshipers to drink from a bottle of water laced with noxious Rattex to ‘nourish their bodies’ and ‘heal their sickness’.
After the pastor took a sip from the bottle, the congregants voluntarily ran to the front to have a drink of the deadly poison.
The pastor went ahead to share pictures on social media pouring the poisoned water down congregants’ throats.
“The man of God, Prophet Light Monyeki demonstrates power of faith by causing congregants to drink Rattex; deadly poison to show forth their faith,” the church posted on Facebook.

Ingestion of Rattex can lead to death in humans, as it prevents clotting in the body, meaning those who ingest it can bleed to death.
Monyeki is the latest of controversial South African pastors on record for unorthodox practices among their followers.
In 2014, the ‘miracle worker’ Pastor Lesego Daniel of Rabboni Centre Ministries in South Africa convinced members of his church to eat grass, telling them it would give them strength and healing.
A year later, another young pastor named Penuel Mnguni commanded his congregants to eat a snake as a show of faith. He was later arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty.
