Pay me or I sue you, Raila tells Duale over Mumias debt claims

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has threatened to sue the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale over remarks he made on the Mumias Sugar debate unless he (Duale) makes a settlement to the Cord leader.

In a demand letter sent through lawyer Paul Mwangi, Mr Odinga says he will file the suit against Mr Duale within seven days unless the offer is made in a week.

Mr Mwangi said he is still studying statements issued by Deputy President William Ruto.

He says Mr Duale’s sentiments were understood to mean that Mr Odinga is a debt defaulter who unlawfully withheld from the people of western province money which is rightfully due.

He further says Mr Duale appears to imply that the former Premier was responsible for the collapse of Mumias Sugar Company and that he lacks integrity as a politician.

“Your words in their natural and ordinary meaning and by way of innuendo were calculated to tarnish our client’s reputation in the eyes of reasonable people in the Kenyan society and the world at large and cause harm and injury to our client as a businessman, a politician and a leader,” wrote Mr Mwangi.
