Pep Guardiola is holidaying in Kenya and Twitter is thrilled
Kenyan football lovers were thrilled following news that outgoing Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is in the country for what has been billed as a private family safari.
The celebrated football coach, who has previously managed the indefatigable Barcelona side, arrived in the country via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport over the weekend.
Guardiola is holidaying in the country with his wife Cristina Serra, and children Maria, Marius and Valentina.
He was welcomed in the country by Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who posted a selfie with Guardiola on his Instagram.
Joho reportedly arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight together with the coach. There has been no official confirmation from the Spaniard on the Kenya trip.
“He is really happy to be here with his family,” Hon Joho told Game Yetu. “Pep said he will be here till the New Year but wants a low profile to just have a rest with family.”
TV anchor and avid follower of European football Ali Manzu (@Ali_Manzu) bragged: “Kenya is such a beautiful country, yaani Pep Guardiola and family are on vacation till new year! A Plus.”
A Twitter user (@wallacemoses95) went on; “Pep Guardiola is on Vacation in KENYA till next year. We are a blessed country with beautiful scenery. What a Country to live in. Does @CNN know @Optus , Pope Francis and Now Pep Guardiola have visited Kenya in the same year even after labeling us “Terror Hotbed?”
Bonnie Musambi (@bonniemusambi) also weighed in: “Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is in Kenya to celebrate new year! Kenya is truly loved,” while Richard Krop (@kroprichard) said, “The great Pep Guardiola in the Country for Holiday. Confirms Kenya as a top destination.”
Guardiola is popular among Kenyans following his successful stint at Barcelona and Bayern Munich football clubs.
He is set to leave Bayern at the end of the season and has been billed as the ideal replacement for sacked Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Louis van Gaal at Manchester United or Manuel Pellegrini of Manchester City.
