Pharmacists on the spot for drink-spiking in city bars

Pharmacists have been put on the spot for supplying drugs used to spike drinks of unsuspecting clients in bars.

In recent times, cases of revellers being drugged and robbed have been on the rise in Nairobi.

Drink-spiking has also been known to be used by rapists.

Speaking during the annual conference for pharmacists, National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse boss John Mututho vowed to crack the whip on rogue pharmacists.

Mr Mututho said the agency is already aware of specific clinical drugs being used in the now common trend.

“We are tracking down the sources of these drugs and those pharmacists will not like the outcome for sure,” said the Nacada boss.

According to Mr Mututho, any pharmacist found to have supplied the drink-spiking drugs will face charges of drug peddling and have their operating licenses revoked for life.

Further, all their drug stock will be confiscated and destroyed.

“Pharmacists should know that this is no joke and Nacada will not relent until every supplier is caught,” he said.

The Nacada boss also suggested that pharmacists be trained as professional bartenders as an additional measure against drink-spiking and alcohol control.
