Police hunt for three women in robbery racket
Police are hunting for three women suspected to be behind robberies in jewellery shops, M-Pesa outlets and restaurants.
Two of the women are suspected to be part of an armed gang tha raids shops while the other woman is suspected to have been the partner of a woman who was gunned down on Thika Superhighway on December 28.
On Tuesday this week, two women entered the Eastern Watch Company on Standard Street, posing as customers.
“After a few minutes, three men who were armed with two firearms entered the shop too and made away with gold plates valued at Sh2.5 million and a CCTV digital visual recorder (DVR) valued at Sh20, 000,” Nairobi County deputy police commandant Moses Ombati said.
Gesturing
An attendant at the shop, Firoz Nanji Merali, said the two women entered the shop and asked for some jewellery and as they were looking at them, one of the ladies kept looking out with gestures.
“The three men came into the shop and drew firearms before asking clients and attendants to lie down,” said Mr Merali.
They then robbed clients and dismantled CCTVs and walked away without injuring anyone.
Police now suspect that the gang is the same one that stole jewellery from the Chandaria 2000 shop on Wabera Street four months ago.
In the robbery, the guard at the shop was shot once on each thigh and seriously wounded as he attempted to raise alarm.
Customers who were at the shop at the time, said the woman had entered the shop and posed as customers before the two men entered the shop and drew a pistol ordering the cashier to hand them money.
