A policeman has gone underground after his pistol was found on one of the two suspects shot dead in Nairobi last Friday.

On Tuesday night, Kiambu police commander Adiel Nyange and DCI chief Amos Teben broke into the officer’s house at Kiambu police station and found fire arms which had been reported stolen.

According to a police report, the senior sergeant attached to DCI Kiambu Division has been missing since Friday when two gunmen were killed along Enterprise Road and two pistols recovered from them.

Officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit have been hunting for the officer after a gun issued to him was recovered from the two  slain suspects in Industrial Area.

Police added that the men were riding on a motorbike when officers from Special Crimes Prevention Unit, who had been trailing them, struck.

One of the pistols recovered from the suspects has been traced to the Kiambu constable. The second one is believed to belong to a civilian who lost it to thugs.

On Saturday after the gun was traced to the constable, police investigating the case went to Kiambu County and made a searched the armory at the police station and established that five Ceska pistols were issued on different dates.

On Monday the county commander visited the station again and found two Taurus pistols were missing.

On Wednesday they broke in to the house of the said constable and recovered the missing Taurus pistol loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

They also found a bulletproof vest, two pistol magazines items, which do not appear in any police records at the station.

Also found in the officers office were 19 bullets and a Ceska pistol magazine all which don’t appear in the inventory of weapons at the station.

Police believe the officer, who is on the run, is armed with the missing firearm. The source of the inventory found is being investigated.
