Police shoot, kill suspected robber in Kasarani

Police in Nairobi August 19, 2023, shot dead a suspected robber in Manguo Area, in Kasarani.

The incident occured after the deceased was suspected to have been in a group of three who had terrorized residents of Mwihoko in Ruiru.

He was killed after a pursuit with police officers.

It started when the trio stormed two mini-supermarkets within Mwitirithia where they made away with money of unknown value and other valuable items.

They then boarded a getaway motorbike, blue in color, and journeyed through the Eastern by-pass road to join Mwiki.

Little did they know police officers were on their radar.

As soon as they left, locals called for help hoping the motorbike would be stopped, but in vain.

Ms Lucy Wairimu a local said she was preparing to retire to bed when she heard the screams.

“I made a few calls only to be told that three armed robbers had just stolen from the neighborhood. I was really scared,” she said.

Another local identified as Moses Limo said that he was in the house and he could hear the people screaming.

“I heard screams but feared to get out of the house because these days Mwihoko is very insecure,” said Mr Limo.

The motorbike was flagged down at the bridge by the plain cloth police officers but they defied and shot towards the police.

That is when the officers fired back and shot one, killing him on the spot. The other two managed to escape but police say that they have launched a manhunt for them.

A sleuth attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who spoke in confidence said the suspected robber who was killed has been terrorizing locals within Kasarani, Hunters and Mwiki areas for sometime.

Nairobi County police boss Mr Adamson Bungei said the launch for the other two was still on and exuded confidence they will soon be apprehended.

The body of the deceased was taken to the City Mortuary in Nairobi.
