Police to probe Sonko over alleged death threats
A court has ordered investigation into allegations that Nairobi senator Mike Sonko issued death threats to a man accused of obtaining money by false pretense.
City Court Acting Senior Principle Magistrate Joe Omido directed Police officers at Parklands Police station investigate the owner of the phone number used to issue the threats and also seek consent from Senator Mike Sonko.
“ I direct that police officers in Parklands Police station investigate the number used to issue the death threats and seek consent from Senator Mike Sonko if he knows about the allegations to enable the court establish the truth of this allegations,” said Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido.
Magistrate Omido said the allegations are serious and concerning a senior leader in the country and that police should take it seriously.
“The court wants to know the truth of this allegations because it concerns a senior leader in the country,” he said.
Haren Damji Mandavia, through his lawyer, alleged that someone purporting to be Mike Mbuvi Sonko called him on January 7th at around 11:00 am and threatened to send people to kill him.
“I would like to ask the court to order investigations concerning this matter because my life is in danger” he told the court.
