Policeman charged with losing pistol to woman in Lang’ata hotel

A police officer was on Wednesday charged with the loss of his firearm while hosting a woman in a hotel room.

It is suspected that the woman stole Corporal Joel Kipkoech Korir’s Ceska pistol before escaping to an unknown destination.

Police reports indicate that the two went to Jupiter Hotel on Monday at 8am and booked a room. After an hour, the officer went to the bathroom for a shower.

While still in the shower room,  the woman took his car keys and went out to his car where she stole the pistol serial number F6104 loaded with fifteen rounds of ammunition.

She also stole Sh5,000 from the police officer.

“On October 4 at Jupiter Hotel, Lang’ata shopping center, being a police officer and having been lawfully issued with a Ceska pistol serial number F6104, failed to secure the said firearm,” the charge sheet stated.

He was also accused of failing to secure the fifteen bullets that were in the pistol.

Mr Korir, who is attached to Evergreen police station, Runda, denied both counts.

Investigators argue that the Corporal left behind his pistol in the car, hence the decision to charge him with failure to secure a firearm.

“The accused was found culpable of the offence of failing to secure a firearm and was therefore arraigned in court,” a report states.

Kibera Chief magistrate Ann Ong’ijo released Mr Korir on a Sh500,000 bond and ordered him to report to court once every month until the case is heard and determined.

The hearing will start on December 13 this year.
