President William Ruto has led the country in mourning the death of Gengetone producer Byron Muhando Kivisi.

The late Kivisi was behind the hit song Sipangwingwi, which was largely embraced in the country and used by the President during his campaigns towards 2022 elections.

In his message, the President said that Kivisi introduced him the music sensation Xray during a music recording session of the hit song Sipangwingwi at the Deputy President’s residence in Karen.

“I recall with fondness his calm and collected demeanour, but more importantly, his immense talent that made him an acclaimed music producer. It is disheartening that we have lost Byron at a prime age. We are comforted by the fact that his works of art will live on,” the President said through a message on the X platform.

Sipangwingwi singer Exray Taniu also featured the President in a remix that was released in August last year, a song that he used to pass his political message to his opponents that he was not ready to be guided on what needs to be done towards the election.

The remix came days after the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) prohibited the public from using the phrase, stating that it was promoting hate speech towards the election.

It was seen as defiance by the President and his team, who claimed that the last regime was attempting to stop them from advancing their political mileage using the Sipangwingwi term.

Also, Trio Mio, who was featured in the original Sipangwingwi hit song, has mourned the death of their producer.

“Aaaaiii Paapii! We made magic together. Still can’t believe it, my G. Rest easy, King. Your work lives on,” Trio Mio posted on his Instagram account.

The family of the late Kivisi is expected to announce the burial arrangement in due course.
