Sakaja’s appeal to police over garbage collectors

Nairobi Governor Jonson Sakaja has decried what he claims is a plan to sabotage his plans of cleaning the city by garbage collectors who’ve been awarded the contracts to do the job.

The county boss has further asked authorities from the country to help him apprehend the culprits who dump dirt alongside roads inside of os the Dandora dumping site.

Speaking during his first engagement meeting with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) drawn from Nairobi County on Thursday at the Kenya School of Government, Sakaja said that it is high time that the culprits face the law.

“When they see a long traffic as they head to the Dandora dumping site or the queues, they start dumping in illegal points with those trucks. It is good to understand because they don’t gain anything by going all the way to Dandora. But they will go and dump at night in a field, or they will dump on the road so that they can do more trips. If we help each other on that, we will reduce the city being dirty,” Sakaja said.

The Governor reiterated his agenda of restoring a city of order and dignity as stipulated in his manifesto and asked the police to join efforts in ensuring that the agenda is achieved.

“For us, we said we want a city of order, dignity, hope, and opportunity. And that I am sure is what the police service wants. That is what the national government administration wants Nairobi become the City of order, dignity of hope, and opportunity.”

The meeting was also attended by Nairobi Deputy Governor James Muchiri, who asked both the parties to start implementing on the matters that have been agreed upon.

“What remains now is for us to execute, to implement, and to get what we have said here executed. And it is good that we have been told by the RPC that we don’t use words like kindly and we execute and move forward. When I was at NYS, we were told that amri ni kubwa kuliko yule mwenye ametoa. So we have been told what to do and let’s go ahead and get things done,” DG Muchiri said.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Mr Adamson Bungei led the police officers in the meeting.
