Seasoned journalist Isaac Swila named Head of Sports at Royal Media Services (RMS)

Royal Media Services (RMS) has announced a raft of appointments affecting the management of its sports stable, Nairobi News can reveal.

The changes include the appointment of renowned journalist Isaac Swila as the Head of Sports at the respected media house, which owns among others Citizen TV, Radio Citizen, and Hot 96 FM.

Nairobi News understands Swila’s appointment was confirmed through an internal memo signed by RMS editorial director Linus Kaikai.

Kaikai also named Young Muthomi the Managing Editor, of Radio News and Sports.

“I am pleased to announce the consolidation of the Group’s sports news across all platforms and the creation of an all-under-one sports section named the RMS Sports Centre,” said Kaikai.

“Please join me in congratulating and extending our support to Young, Isaac, and the entire RMS Sports Centre team as they begin this exciting journey into the future.”

Swila who boasts a bachelor’s degree in Political Science & Public Administration from Moi University and a Master of Arts degree in Digital Journalism from The Aga Khan University, Graduate School of Media and Communication, is a seasoned and respected journalist in Kenya.

He commenced his journalism career as a reporter at the People Daily newspaper, before switching to the Daily Nation where he mainly covered the sports desk leading to his move to Royal Media Services where he has been in charge of news dissemination for the past five years.

He also hosts a weekly sports TV show that airs every Monday morning dubbed Sports Monday.

In between, Swila has enjoyed stints at the Nairobi Law Monthly magazine as a political writer and also at Germany-based Deutsche Welle as East Site Project editor.

Swila’s decade-plus stint in journalism has seen him win several awards including the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Sports Journalist of the Year in 2017, alongside the Kenya Premier League (KPL) Sports Journalists of the Year (1st Runner’s Up) in 2012.
