Sol Generation mentor Bensoul, Nvirri The StoryTeller replacements
Sol Generation signees Bensoul and Nviiri The StoryTeller are yet to leave the label despite announcing their exit in April 2023.
The exit, the duo announced, was in line with their ambition to become independent artists.
However they are yet to leave the label with their imminent departure expected to happen in 2024.
“Bensoul and Nviiri haven’t left yet, they are leaving next year (2024) to become independent artistes,” Sol Group Head of Business Moriasi Omambia confirmed.
The reason their exit has dragged on is linked to a transition process that has been going on for months.
“The process of moving them into becoming independent artists started earlier this year (2023). We decided to take some guys from the Sol Generation team who have been with them during their growth journey for them to be part of their respective teams because there is an element of continuity. Then we can get and groom new younger artists than to take up their place. They will need a new team that understands a younger clientele. So that’s how we are building their exit.”
“So we have Press Play and Sol Generation which is building the younger generation. The Press Play has six young ladies who went through an audition, and the guys (Sauti Sol) veted them, then chose them,” he added.
The six young female vocalists are currently enrolled to Sol Generation artiste development program.
“It’s the same program that Bensoul and Nviiri went through which took Nviiri from a videographer to one of the biggest streaming artiste in Kenya. And Bensoul from a bass player to one of the best-streaming artists outside Kenya.”
Nviiri is known for hits such as Pombe Sigara, Overdose and Niko Sawa while Bensoul has hit the airwaves with tracks including Pedi and Doorstep.
