Awinja responds to reports of political ambition
Comedienne Jackie Vikie alias Awinjah has downplayed any assumptions of joining politics.
The reports are engineered after she was recently feted by President William Ruto.
The popular actress was among a star-studded cast feted with national honours by the Head of State
Alongside actors Abel Mutua and scriptwriter Edwin Butita, Awinja was bestowed with the honorary Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) a national honor for her contribution to the Arts and Culture field.
There have been reports several content creators and celebrities are eyeing a stab at politics ahead of the 2027 General elections thus following in the footsteps of Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o and Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jesse.
Awinja is adamant that she is not one of them
“I have no interest in joining politics. I believe I have been recognized by the President because of what I do which is entertaining Kenyans and that’s what I plan to keep doing. So the notion that I could be diverting to politics is not correct, because the honor bestowed on me has nothing to do with it but everything to do with entertainment,” she explained.
Nonetheless, the witty lass says she feels very honored to be feted and appreciated.
“I’m truly humbled and grateful because most of the time we do content, we don’t do it to be recognized but because we love it, because of the passion we have but if awards come with it that’s a plus for us,” the mother of one added.
Awinja is among the most celebrated content creators in Kenya, having risen from her role as an actress in the famed Papa Shirandula show on Citizen TV into perhaps one of the best-paid actors in Kenya.
She mainly produces her content, in the form of short skits, and uploads them on her social media pages which boast hundreds of thousands of followers.
Besides, she has bagged several endorsement deals with several blue chip forms such as Naivas Supermarket and betting firm Odibets.
