Sonko spoils elders with a free 14-seater van – PHOTOS

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday honoured his pre-election pledge to Akamba elders by donating a 14-seater van to be used by the elders for their transport needs.

The elders had requested for the vehicle in July when they installed Mr Sonko as an Akamba elder.

Mr Sonko was also given the mantle to lead the community by the Akamba Clans Governing Council of Elders.

Speaking during the handover of the vehicle to the elders at his home in Mua hills, Mr Sonko thanked the elders for their blessings and prayers.

“I thank the elders who have walked the journey with me. I give them this 14-seater van as my appreciation and will give them another in due course,” said the Nairobi governor.

He also promised to purchase a similar van for a group of women dancers who had accompanied the elders.

The chairman of the elders, Mr Boniface Kilonzo thanked Mr Sonko for his generosity and for minding the welfare of the elders.

Mr Kilonzo said Governor Sonko was visionary and should lead the Akamba community.

“As elders we have seen the future and are sure of Mr Sonko’s good leadership. We give him the mantle to lead the Akamba community,” said Mr Kilonzo.

The elders also presented Mr Sonko with a special staff engraved with the emblem of a lion as a symbol of authority.
