Sonko wakes from slumber after loud outcry on shabby roads – PHOTOS
Repair works on roads in the city centre started on Sunday following public outrage on the state of roads in Nairobi.
Tom Mboya Street in the CBD is among the few roads in the city that have already been repaired with a layer of tarmac.
A spot check by Nairobi News on Monday showed the road, a major artery for traffic into and out of the city centre, being carpeted with no pothole in sight.
Other roads within the city centre under repair include Moi Lane and Loita Street, where potholes are being filled up.
“We are pleased that the government has started to repair the roads that were making us incur a lot of costs in repairs of our vehicles,” said Charles Njuguna a matatu driver.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday night, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said that he only needed one more year to fix Nairobi.
“People are making a lot of noise and I’m happy, I love them, I like my critics because without them criticizing me I wouldn’t know the challenges on the ground,” Sonko said in the interview.
The governor has been sharp criticism following the poor state of the city that has been plagued by deteriorating roads and poor waste management.
