Trial adjourned after suspect in lawyer Willy Kimani’s case falls sick in court
The trial of four Administration Police officers accused of murdering human rights lawyer Willy Kimani and two others was adjourned on Thursday after one of the suspects fell ill in court.
The accused, Stephen Morogo, urged the trial judge Lady Justice Jessie Lessit to stop the hearing because he could not follow the proceedings due to abdominal complications.
Morogo told the judge through his defence lawyer that he began vomiting while on his way to the court from Kamiti Maxium Prison where he is being held.
He asked the judge to indulge him then direct that he be taken to hospital.
State prosecutor, Mr Nicholas Mutuku, told the court that although he was ready to proceed it was proper for the suspect to be given medical attention.
Mr Mutuku asked the court to direct medical authorities to avail the medical sheet outlining the nature of treatment of the accused as well as a medical report.
MEDICAL REPORT
“I urge the court to direct that a medical report be filed in court explaining the sickness treated,” Mr Mutuku submitted.
The judge directed the prison authorities to escort the accused to hospital for treatment and also ordered that a medical report be availed in court on March 27, 2017.
Mr Morogo is jointly charged alongside Senior Sergeant Fredrick ole Leliman, Leonard Mwangi Maina, Sylvia Wanjiku Wanjohi and police informer Peter Ngugi Kamau with the murders of lawyer Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri on June 23, 2016.
They allegedly killed the three at Soweto area within Mlolongo in Athi River Machakos County.
The “Mavoko Three” were allegedly kidnapped as they left Mavoko Law Courts on June 23, 2016 then locked up at the Syokimau AP Camp before being removed from the cells at night then killed one after the other at the sprawling farm.
