Tragedy as eight-year-old boy falls to his death from apartment balcony

A family in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate is coming to terms with the tragic death of their eight-year-old son who fell off the eighth floor of their apartment.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon while the boy was playing with his friends on the balcony.

The parents of the Grade Three pupil are said to have been home at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the minor was rushed to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy as police launched investigations.

A similar incident was recently reported in Nairobi’s Umoja estate where a Grade Eight pupil died after allegedly falling from the rooftop of their school.

The boy’s body was discovered on the first floor of the building. The school is situated in a seven-story building.

However, the police said the injuries the boy sustained did not match those typically associated with a fall.

Four individuals – two directors, the head teacher, and a teacher responsible for the boarding section – were arrested for interrogation.

Buru Buru sub-County Police Commander Francis Kamau said they are investigating murder since there were numerous inconsistencies in the tragic incident.

According to sources at the school, the deceased pupil had reportedly been interrogated by a teacher earlier in the day. However, the sequence of events leading to the boy’s tragic death remain unclear.

Police collected the child’s remains for autopsy, as demanded by the grieving parents. Some parents have since visited the school to inspect the safety standards.
