Two escape unhurt after train rams their car in Mutindwa accident

Two people escaped unhurt after a commuter train hit their vehicle at Mutindwa railway crossing on Wednesday morning.

The two occupants jumped from the vehicle as the train from Ruiru failed to slow down as it approached the railway crossing.

Confirming the 7am accident, Railway OCPD Esther Chacha said there was traffic snarl-up as the train approached the Mutindwa railway crossing.

The vehicle was in the middle of the railway line as the train approached the crossing.

“The two were not injured as they managed to jump as the train approached. The train hit the vehicle on the back and dragged it a few meters,” Ms Chacha said.

She added that bystanders managed to pull the vehicle out of the accident scene and the train proceeded to the city centre.

The vehicle was towed to Buru buru police station.

Motorists using the Mike Sonko Road connecting Umoja to Buruburu have complained of getting stuck in the huge pothole on the road as they pass over the railway crossing.
