Uganda Army dismiss ‘fake’ paratroopers viral clip
Uganda’s Defence Ministry has dismissed a viral video on social media showing paratroopers attached to its military.
The Ministry’s spokesperson urged its citizens to ignore the video, terming it fake.
“Our attention has been drawn to a video doing rounds on social media purported to be a video of UPDF paratroopers that performed a tremendous job on Independence Day. Therefore, ignore this video because it is fake.,” MoDVA spokesperson said on Thursday.
The ministry stressed that during the 60th Independence Day celebrations, only a few people were allowed into the stadium in strict adherence to Covid-19 measures.
“Such a crowd did not attend the Independence Celebration due to Covid-19 restrictions and all our paratroopers had successful jumps.”
Also, the ministry said that a keen look at the parachutes that were used in the viral video is not the same as those used by Ugandan paratroopers.
From the widely shared clip, paratroopers are seen crashing as they land on the ground full of people who are being heard cheering.
Some paratroopers are seen landing on top of seats in the stadium at high speed.
The disowned clip comes a few days after Kenyans and Ugandans engaged in a Twitter war following allegations from President Museveni’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba that it will take less than two weeks for him and ‘his’ army ‘ to invade and take over Nairobi.
His allegations elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, and leaders in the country asking why a senior army officer would make such jokes.
A day later, President Museveni urged Kenyans to forgive his son for his careless conduct.
Kenyans seem to have intentionally chosen to extend the battle by using the clip to banter Ugandans for General Muhoozi’s claims.
