Uhuru, Ruto wives poised for prestigious state honours


The wives of President Uhuru Kenyatta and and his deputy William Ruto are set for top honours from the Head of State on Jamhuri Day.

The two, Margaret Kenyatta and Rachel Ruto, have been nominated for the prestigious Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH).

Only Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga is nominated for a superior award, Senior Elder of the Golden Heart.

Mr Joseph Kinyua and Maryanne Kitany, the Chiefs Staff in the offices of both the president and his deputy, respectively will also receive the EGH award.

Their names are contained in an advert in the Daily Nation on Monday.

AWARD HONOURS

Also to be feted with EGH are cabinet secretaries Joseph ole Lenku (Interior), Anne Waiguru (Devolution), Jacob Kaimenyi (Education) and Felix Koskei (Agriculture).

Others are Dr Fred Matiang’I (ICT), Phyllis Kandie (Tourism), Raychelle Omamo (Defence), Amina Mohammed (Foreign Affairs), Michael Kamau (Transport) and Hassan Wario (Sports).

The president will also award honours in the categories of Moran of the Golden Heart, Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear, Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear, Moran of the Burning Spear and Order of the Grand Warrior.

Others are the Silver Star, the Head of State Commendation and Distinguished Service Medal.
