Was it a birthday gift? Uganda Speaker Anita Among’s brother carjacked in Kenya
Mr Wilson Okello, the brother of Uganda National Assembly Speaker Antia Among, was carjacked while driving a new Toyota Prado on November 10, 2023, after he had picked it up from the Mombasa Port and was driving it back to Uganda.
According to the Kenya Police, Mr Okello was found unconscious along Mombasa Road in his boxers and vest after being stupefied by the carjackers.
An ambulance rushed him to the Kenyatta National Hospital where he remained while his family frantically searched for his whereabouts.
He was discharged on November 13, 2023, as police conducted investigations.
According to Mr Okello, he had been driving the vehicle that had no number plates and upon arrival in Voi, he was flagged down by four people, including two women, who claimed to be pastors and asked him for a lift to Kisumu County. He agreed. On the drive, because it was hot, they offered him a bottle of soda which he drank. His next recollection of memory was gaining consciousness on November 11 at the hospital. The vehicle is yet to be located.
The Prado may have been a gift for Speaker Among’s husband who recently celebrated his birthday.
Mrs Among is known to enjoy gifting her husband luxurious vehicles on his birthday but this year, she simply wished him a happy birthday with neither a luxurious gift in sight nor the pomp and circumstance that often marks her parties.

Last year, she bought her husband a brand new Range Rover Vogue 2022 edition on his birthday. The vehicle cost Sh 22 million and its features include rain-sensing wipers, a six-speaker 180W sound system, dual-zone climate control, and heated, power-folding exterior mirrors.
She accompanied the vehicle with an emotional social media post, thanking him for being a wonderful friend, companion, and life partner. Speaker Among is Mr Magogo’s third wife.
