Woman in court for drugging police officer
A woman who allegedly lured a police officer to her house and drugged him with intent to steal from him has been arraigned before a Narok court charged with two counts of administering a drug substance to the complainant and stealing from him.
Mercy Nyaboke appeared before Narok Senior Principal Magistrate Alex Ithuku charged that on February 9, 2015 at Lenana estate in Narok town, jointly with others not in court, they administered an intoxicating drug to Police Constable Dominic Omondi with an intention to steal from him.
The accused faced a second count of stealing from the police officer a pistol, laptop, camera and other electronic item goods all valued at Sh 253, 000 after administering the intoxicating drug to him.
It is alleged that the complainant had been drinking with the accused and her friends in a bar when the accused lured him to her house where the alleged offenses took place.
Ms Nyaboke denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh 200,000 with one surety of similar amount. The matter will be heard on August 24, this year.
PETTY THEFT
Elsewhere, a man has been jailed for two years for stealing property worth Sh 7,080 from his employer in Meru Town. Michael Maina pleaded guilty to the charge before Meru Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa saying he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol.
The court heard that on June 5 this year, the accused stole one cello tape, a pair of black shoes, a Nokia charger, laptop battery, 34 blank discs, and a paper punch among other office equipment belonging to Farm Concern International.
Pleading for leniency from the court, the offender said he was a family man with a wife and child both of whom depended on him.
The Magistrate said the sentence was strong warning to offenders with similar intentions saying such cases were rampant in the region. The offender was given 14 days to appeal the court’s decision.
