5 steps to successfully carry out a fast from romantic relationships

By Winnie Mabel January 20th, 2024 2 min read

There are people who cannot face life without being in a relationship. There must always be someone beside them whether the relationship is casual or a committed one.

They break up today and the person they had flying around in the friend zone becomes their next romantic partner the following day – or after three business days.

Some of these people do it out of psychological issues such as fear of abandonment so they clutch on to anyone and everyone, some do it out of sociopathy to have body counts while others could do it out of addictions- such as addiction to ‘bedminton’ that requires the constant presence of a partner.

If you are such a person, or know someone for that matter, there are ways one can successfully go on a fast from romantic relationships. They can chose to intentionally follow the steps below if they decide a relationship fast is something they want to embark on:

  1. Intentionally take time out from one’s environment and lifestyle to reflect on why they have a constant stream of romantic partners flowing in and out of their lives. Find out why and what triggers one to get into numerous romantic relationships within a short span of time.
  2. Establish boundaries for oneself such as turning off the phone or blocking some contacts to keep potential lovers at bay while one figures themselves out. One should make sure to communicate their intention to keep away from romantic relationships for a while (if they were flirting around with several people) so that they don’t burn bridges they may need to cross later.
  3. At this time, one should focus their attention on everything else apart from relationships. One can begin working on their body goals, picking up that hobby or going to therapy and meditation. If one finds that this would be hard to do by themselves, they can build their own support community of people who understand them and are willing to guide them on this fast. They can also encourage you to keep on track especially when one finds that they want to hit the speed dial to call up John.
  4. One must choose to set up personal goals such as they won’t date for six months to focus on completing a certified course, or to save money they spent on dating to invest in other things. They must choose to put themselves first instead of enjoying instant romantic gratification one relationship after another.
  5. At the end of the day, one must evaluate their fasting progress. They can go through their meditation journey, journals and reflect on past conversations with their support group to see how far they have come; and see how much further they can go to become a better version of themselves.
