Akothee lauds Alfred Mutua’s attempt to resolve Saudia Arabia employment challenges

Singer Akothee born Esther Akoth has praised the government’s efforts to resolve the challenges facing Kenyans employed in the Middle East.

The mother of five, in a message on her socials, specifically lauded Alfred Mutua, the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary, for electing to travel to Saudia Arabia in a bid to arrest the problem.

“You have started on a good note. Visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one step toward solving the plight of Kenyans working in the Gulf State,” said Akothee.

The singer also asked Mutua to summon all agencies sending Kenyans to work in Saudi Arabia and hand the operation licences based on stringent conditions.

Mutua recently had a meeting with these agencies in Nairobi.

“Ensure these agencies follow up on the plight of employees they send to Saudi Arabia,” she said.

Mutua who is currently in Saudi Arabia made a commitment during his vetting in the National Assembly to improve on the welfare of Kenyans based in the Gulf.

The commitment comes amid complaints of torture and reports of death by Kenyans based in Saudi Arabia.

Government records indicate 89 Kenyans have died in Saudi Arabia in the past two years.

They include Naomi Barongo who died in unclear circumstances in September 2022, a year after he went to Saudi Arabia in search of a job.
