Raila issues Azimio protests diary, blasts Police
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has asked his supporters to ignore what he described as threats by Police and converge at Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on March 20, 2023, for protests.
Mr Odinga also hinted the march, which will commence at Parliament buildings, could lead to the State House, Nairobi in a bid to reclaim what he insists is his stolen victory in the August 2022 polls.
“All Kenyans of goodwill should converge and we will march together. Once you have gathered at the center it will be a grand match to State House to reclaim our victory,” said Mr Odinga in an address via his socials.
The former Prime Minister affirmed the same message in Kiswahili.
“Kesho Alfajiri nahimiza Wakenya wote warauke mapema waingie kwenye kiwanja, tutakutana katikati ya mji wa Nairobi, nataka Wakenya wakuje wote,”
Odinga sentiments came as Nairobi Police boss Adamson Bungei described the said protests as illegal adding authorities will be ready to deal with anyone who goes against the law.
Mr Odinga has, however, hit back, and said the work of the police is not to license protests but rather offer security to protestors.
Mr Odinga, who finished second to President William Ruto in the August 2022 polls as per the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) tally, said he has decided to take on President William Ruto’s regime after his demands on opening the IEBC servers went unheeded.
“We have sufficient evidence to prove that Mr Ruto didn’t win the elections and that is why they have refused to open the server,
“Life has become so tough and unbearable. People are really suffering. Mr Ruto has divided Kenyans according to ethnic lines compared to any President who has led this country,” he said.
Mr Odinga also reiterated that Monday is a public holiday despite not having the powers under the law to do so.
Odinga sentiments have been welcomed by a section of his supporters, most of whom were taken aback by his earlier sentiments to the effect that only a handful of selected people would take the petition to State House.
