Larry Madowo meets Davido eight years later after banning him on ‘The Trend’

Eight years ago, if you would have told CNN International Correspondent Larry Madowo, that he would one day eat humble pie and face Nigerian singer Davido, he probably would have laughed at your face.

Back then, during his appearance on The Trend, which Madowo used to host on NTV, Davido appeared nonchalant and only gave monosyllable answers to the questions he was asked.

What seemed to irk Madowo was perhaps Davido’s constant swinging on the chair that was assumed by fans as lack of interest and attention to the show.

But the two have finally met again. Madowo who was recently promoted to head CNN African Voices show, sat down for an interview with the singer, months after losing his son. The interview is the singers first since the death of his son last year.

“Sat down with @davido for a lengthy, honest conversation – his first interview since losing his son. Soon on CNN’s African Voices,” Madowo said.

Their meet up seems like a clear indication that one should never keep grudges especially after Madowo ranted about artiste who look down on others on his Front Row column that run on the Daily Nation newspaper.

“To say he is pleasant to those he does not deem important to him would be an understatement. During the interview, he was disinterested and rude, almost as if the whole thing deeply irritated him and he would rather have been elsewhere,” Madowo wrote on his column.

Kenyans had this to say:

“I hope this time hakuzungusha kiti, vile alikufanyia the trend,” gospel singer Pitson said.

“I remember very well how he misbehave on the trend sometimes back. This life,” mleyhi said.

“Moral of the story…”waliokudharau siku moja watakuitisha interview”,” cp_limo said.

“Amewacha kiburi? He really looked down on you during the trend years back. Aki Maisha,” chefjosephmacharia said.

“Does Davido remember walking out of your interview prematurely for no apparent reason on your show the trend a few years back? He’s here, with you, again. Only now, it’s on an international platform. Who you meet today, you will tomorrow and dynamics might change then. So sorry for his loss though, hope God grants him and his wife continual healing,” Kuko_gitagia said.

Davido’s son Ifeanyi died in November 2022. The toddler is said to have drowned in a swimming pool at his father’s house on Banana Island in Lagos.

According to reports, after futile attempts to resuscitate the boy, Ifeanyi was rushed to a hospital in the Lekki area of the state, where he was confirmed dead.

It was also reported that Davido and his fiancé Chioma had reportedly left Ifeanyi at home with his caretakers when the incident occurred. The couple have never talked about the incident.
