Wanyama tipped for breakthrough in the EPL

Victor Wanyama’s missed opportunity to switch clubs in the English Premier League during the recently closed transfer window could be a blessing in disguise for the Harambee Stars captain, according to one English journalist.

In an opinion piece for goal.com, writer Victor Tinto has tipped the Southampton midfielder for a “big” move in the English Premier League next summer.

The Southampton midfielder missed out on a move to Tottenham Hotspur last month, despite placing a transfer request and missing out on some of the club’s competitive matches.

“The reality is that next year, Arsenal will be looking for two defensive midfield players, with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini likely leaving, Chelsea are said to be keen to get rid of Ramires and John Obi Mikel, while Lucas Leiva’s future is up for debate at Liverpool,” Tinto wrote in his article.

“So if Wanyama does well this season, he may well get his chance of a move to the real big boys… no disrespect for Spurs,” he added.

Southampton are however keen to keep hold of the 24 year old, with the club’s hierarchy suggesting that they will be offering the player a contract extension to tie him down at the club for the next five years.
