Louis Otieno claims Careen was sexually abused by her father

June 3rd, 2016 2 min read

Former television personality Louis Otieno on Friday made sensational claims of sexual abuse at an inquest on the murder of Ms Careen Chepchumba.

Ms Chepchumba, 26, was found lying dead on her bed at Santonia Court, off Kirichwa Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, on February 14, 2012.

In his first appearance at the inquest in Kibera law courts on Friday, Mr Otieno said his hearing was impaired and he could only communicate in gestures.

He was allowed to proceed with his testimony with the help of an aide.

Mr Otieno started off by accusing Ms Chepchumba’s father, Mr Hosea Kili, of sexually abusing his daughter.

He said the deceased had also confided to him that Mr Kili was not her biological father.

JUST A FRIEND

Mr Otieno flatly denied ever having sex with Ms Chepchumba and insisted they were just a friends. He said he is married to Joyce and they have two kids – a son and daughter.

He however admitted that Ms Chepchumba used to visit him in his flat and that he had helped her to move from her parents house to rent her own flat.

“We became good friends (with Ms Chepchumba) and I used to visit her at her flat,” he told the inquest.

Mr Otieno denied ever receiving cash from the deceased and said he made his own money from his consultancy services.

“I had medical insurance so she could not have given me money for medical bills,” he said.

Ms Chepchumba’s father had in his testimony last week claimed that his daughter had borrowed heavily from friends and family to finance the flashy lifestyle of the former television personality. In total, she had borrowed Sh3,000,000 from her father’s friends and close family members.

He also claimed his daughter had purchased a state of the art Range Rover for Mr Otieno.

But Mr Otieno denied the claims.

“Before I met her I owned several Mercedes Benz, Land Cruiser and a BMW at various times,” he testified on Friday.

However later in his testimony, he acknowledged that Ms Chepchumba had paid a lot of bills and did a lot of errands for him

Documents in court show the deceased used to pay bills for Mr Otieno, including a payment of Sh500, 000.

Mr Otieno absolved himself from the murder by claiming that he was in Magadi when it happened. He said police had tracked his phones to determine his location at the time of the murder and they had established that he was out of Nairobi for over a week before the murder.

He added that a DNA test conducted by the police after Ms Chepchumba’s death had also cleared him of the murder.
