Alikiba’s son turns four as parents navigate through public divorce

By Neema Amani February 20th, 2023 1 min read

Tanzanian singer Alikiba’s son Keyaan celebrated his fourth birthday over the weekend. The singer and his Kenyan wife Amina, reportedly divorced last year, marked the occasion through Instagram posts.

Alikiba shared a photo of his son with a birthday wish, while Amina shared a cake photo.

The couple’s wedding is estimated to have cost around Sh50 million, with two lavish ceremonies held in Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.

However, Amina filed for divorce from her husband just three years after their wedding.

In the papers filed at the Mombasa Kadhi’s court, she cited constant squabbling with the singer, his friends, and family members who lived with them in their matrimonial home after their marriage.

Since then, Alikiba has allegedly tried to reconcile with his wife, traveling to Kenya incognito multiple times.

However, according to a source close to the couple, she appears to have made up her mind. Amina’s petition claimed that the marriage was “irretrievably broken,” and she sought an annulment.

After leaving her matrimonial home in Tanzania in October 2018, Amina claimed that she found the living arrangement at Kiba’s home unsuitable for her mental health.

She delivered her first child in February 2019 and stayed with her family for 40 days, as per Muslim tradition. However, upon returning to her matrimonial home in April 2019, she found the living arrangement still challenging.

In conclusion, Alikiba and Amina’s relationship continues to attract public interest despite their separation, with their son Keyaan’s birthday bringing their past into the limelight once again.
