American rapper Chance the Rapper talks up Kenyan visit
Renowned American rapper, Chance the Rapper, has hinted at his desire to visit Kenya.
The artist shared his intentions on his Instagram stories, stating:
“I want to go to Nairobi,” just hours after President William Ruto announced Kenya’s plans to eliminate visa requirements for all Africans by the end of the year.
Chance the Rapper, whose real name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, is a prominent figure in the American music industry, known for his talents as a rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer.
Born and raised in Chicago, he made his debut with the mixtape “10 Day” in 2012.
His career soared to new heights in 2013 with the release of his second mixtape, “Acid Rap,” and later with his third mixtape, “Coloring Book,” in 2016.
“Coloring Book” received widespread acclaim and commercial success, peaking at number eight on the Billboard 200 chart.
The mixtape earned Chance a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, while the song “No Problem” from the album, featuring 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne, won Best Rap Performance, marking the first time a streaming-only album received a Grammy Award.
He was also named Best New Artist on the same occasion.
In 2019, Chance the Rapper released his debut studio album, “The Big Day,” which garnered commercial success and a mixed critical reception.
The news of his interest in visiting Nairobi comes on the heels of President Ruto’s announcement that, by the end of this year, Kenya will no longer require visas for African travelers.
President Ruto delivered this news during his keynote address at the Three Basins Climate Change Conference in Brazzaville, Congo, emphasizing the importance of intra-African trade.
President Ruto highlighted that the removal of visa requirements had already led to significant growth in trade among East African Community countries.
