Blu3 singer Lillian Mbabazi’s turns to the Bible amid Sh562k rent woes
Popular Ugandan musician Lillian Mbabazi, one of three members of the famed Blu3 girl group, is facing rent woes amounting to UGX 16,200,000 (Sh 561, 713.80).
Her financial issues became public knowledge when court documents from the Chief Magistrate Court of Makindye were published online.
In the summons, Ms Mbabazi was being sued for failing to clear her rent arrears; and the plaintiff wanted the monies recovered. The documents further revealed that she had been given 10 days from the date of receiving the service documents to appear before the court and defend herself.
“Should you fail within the said period of 10 days to apply for such leave, the plaintiff will be entitled to obtain a decree for the amount of right claimed in the plaint,” read the document dated March 6, 2024.
News of her financial woes went viral in Uganda with many wondering how she could be a renowned artiste but was struggling with paying her rent. Some of her fans, however, pledged to donate money to her and begin financial campaigns to help her clear her bills.
Amid these woes both online and offline, she turned to God. Five days later on March 13, 2024, she posted the Bible verses that she was studying to help her get through her problems.
The first study was on Isaiah 54: 14-17 which states, “You’ll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble – nothing to fear! far from terror – it won’t even come close!” while the second part of her study was on Isaiah 54: 4-10.
These verses read, “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. 5 For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth. 6 For the Lord has called you Like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, Like a youthful wife when you were refused,” Says your God.”
They went on, “7 “For a mere moment I have forsaken you, But with great mercies, I will gather you. 8 With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment, But with everlasting kindness, I will have mercy on you,” Says the Lord, your Redeemer. 9 “For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. 10 For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”
Ms Mbabazi was the second wife of the late Mowzey Radio, one of two singers in the popular Radio and Weasel singing due. Radio died in 2018 following a tragic encounter with a bouncer in a Ugandan club.
Ms Mbabazi was left behind with two children.
