City man to face murder charge after step-daughter’s chopped body found

Police in Riruta Satellite are holding a man suspected of killing his step-daughter in Ngong forest.

Stephen Otieno will be charged with murder of the girl, a prosecutor told a Kibera court on Monday.

Parts of the three year-old girl’s body were found in the forest last week, a month after she disappeared.

On August 27, Mr Otieno was charged with abducting the child with intent to have her murdered. He denied the charge and was remanded in police custody to assist police trace the girl or her body parts.

Last week, detectives told the court that Mr Otieno took them to a spot in the forest where they recovered his national identity card, his mobile phone and the girl’s clothes.

WEE HOURS

Mr Otieno is said to have left his house in Riruta Satellite with the child on August 18 when the mother was at work. He returned in the wee hours  the following day without the girl.

He told his wife that the girl on her way home. By the time the wife left for work, the girl had not arrived home.

Later in the day, a relative called to inform her of a chilling letter her husband had written.

In the letter, Mr Otieno had accused his wife of disrespecting him and declaring that he was contemplating suicide.

Alarmed, the wife reported the matter to the police on August 19 and Mr Otieno was arrested the same day.

The search for the girl or her body commenced but with no success.

INVESTIGATE FURTHER

Police decided to charge him with abduction and asked the court to allow them hold the suspect in custody as they further investigate the incident.

On Monday, the prosecution told the court that police had recovered parts of the girl’s body in Ngong forest and would be charging the accused with murder.

“Due to the developments we are are asking the court to allow police to hold the accused for further seven days,” the prosecutor urged the court.

Mr Otieno did not object and the application was granted. The case will be mentioned on October5.
