Controversial vlogger Nuru Okanga sued for insulting President Ruto
The controversial vlogger who just completed his standard 8 exams, Nuru Maloba Okanga, found himself before the Milimani chief magistrate, Lucas Onyina, facing charges of insulting President William Ruto on November 20, 2023.
Despite being an accomplished graduate who scored 320 marks at Mumias Primary School in Kakamega County, Okanga, aged 32, denied the charges against him during the court appearance on November 30.
Represented by city lawyer Emmanuel Kibet, Okanga, who is eagerly awaiting Form One Admission, was keen to refute the allegations.

Mr Kibet assured the court that Okanga, a married man with three children, poses no flight risk. The prosecution did not oppose Okanga’s bail plea, leading to Mr Onyina granting him a cash bail of Sh10,000.
The court set the mention date for December 13, 2023, providing time for pre-trial directions.
The charges against Okanga stem from an alleged incident on November 20, 2023, where he purportedly published false information on his YouTube Channel, Riba News (@ribanews). The video in question, titled “Nuru Okanga on Fire,” reportedly contains unprintable words and insults directed at the head of state.
Okanga was temporarily detained in court cells following the court proceedings while his relatives organised the funds required for the cash bail. Mr. Onyina directed the prosecution to provide the accused with witness statements to facilitate the preparation of his defense.
