Eric Omondi: From Comedian, Content creator to Activist and Philanthorpist?

Comedian Eric Omondi is slowly embracing philanthropy after a stint as an activist.

His latest act is on April 19, 2023, when the controversial comedian shared a video of himself buying and gifting school uniforms to four needy school-going children.

“Today we bought School Uniforms for 4 very needy Pupils of Joash Olum Primary,” he shared on his socials.

“In these very hard economic times can you imagine if the very FORTUNATE amongst us supported those without? I am challenging government Officials from the President to the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) to take a 50 Percent Pay cut for only 4 Months. We can do so much with that money to help avert the suffering of many Kenyans,” he said.

The move comes days after he shared a video of himself with some women who allegedly helped settle their hospital bills.

In the video, Omondi said he secured the release of the five women by paying their bills at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

“We have released 5 New Mothers who had been detained at Pumwani Maternity. Mr. President before you pay 50 CASs millions of Shillings before the Government buys brand new cars for the Executive, PLEASE make an order for all Mothers detained at Pumwani and across the country to be released.”

And on April 15, 2023, the comedian bailed out a bodaboda rider who caused drama at a Nairobi court after failing to pay an Sh25,000 fine for a traffic offense.

Fredrick Munene Mbaru was charged before Milimani Senior principal magistrate Esther Kimilu with driving an uninsured motorcycle.

“This is what Kenyans are going through out there. It is unfortunate that an adult has to publicly cry for help. I will come through for me but then we have to remember there are millions of his kind out there,” said Omondi.

Besides the philanthropy acts, Omondi has severally been arrested in the recent past, in relation to demonstrations he has been holding in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) aimed at putting pressure on President William Ruto’s government to lower the cost of living.
