Telecommunication firm Tecno has announced that Kenyan football legends Dennis Oliech and Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, along with three lucky winners, will attend the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The initiative aims to promote football and connect with fans through these well-known faces.

Anthony Brian, Tecno Retail Manager for Kenya, revealed that Oliech, who has retired, and Ouma, recently transferred to Polish top-tier club Raków Częstochowa from Swedish side AIK, will be part of the AFCON experience.

Brian expressed pride in working with these football icons, stating, “They are faces people can relate to in our product, and we are proud of them.”

While Tecno would have liked to collaborate with more local footballers, they settled on Oliech and Ouma for this occasion.

Brian hinted at the possibility of involving more talented players in the future, especially if Kenya hosts such a tournament.

Oliech and Ouma are set to attend the tournament from its initial stages, while three lucky winners will have the chance to witness the AFCON finals on February 11 at the 60,000-capacity Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Tecno plans to run a random selection process for those predicting the winning team in AFCON, and customers who purchase Tecno products will also have opportunities to be among the lucky winners.

Speaking at the launch of the SPARK 20 Series Limited Edition at Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) to celebrate AFCON, Tecno Brand Manager Peter Shi expressed the company’s pride in associating with the tournament. He highlighted that the Spark 20 series offers dynamic capabilities at competitive prices in the Kenyan market.

As part of its engagement with the football extravaganza, Tecno is planning to set up a big screen in the heart of the city for Kenyans to watch the AFCON finals. The initiative aims to bring the excitement of the continental tournament closer to the fans.
