New money guy in town! Meet Nairobi County’s new Director for Revenue

In a recent announcement, Dr John Ntoiti was appointed as the acting director for revenue at the Nairobi City County Government, succeeding Mr Shaban Asman, who retired.

The County Executive Committee member of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Charles Kerich, expressed confidence in Dr Ntoiti’s capabilities.

“Dr Ntoiti brings a wealth of experience to the new assignment, and his task is clear: to ensure the County realizes its revenue targets to provide services to the residents of Nairobi,” stated Mr Kerich.

Dr Ntoiti, 53, has previously served as a Chief Officer in Nairobi County from 2014 to 2018 and as the Chairperson of revenue mobilization from 2006 to 2014.

He will collaborate with County Chief Officer for Revenue, Mr Wilson Gakuya, to help Nairobi City County achieve its annual revenue targets of Sh19.5 billion.

The new appointee also worked as the CEO of the County Revenue Board in Meru County. Dr Ntoiti holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), an MBA in Finance from Kenyatta University, and a degree in Economics from Moi University.

His appointment coincides with the County’s transition of revenue operations to the newly formed Nairobi Revenue Authority, chaired by Mr Andrew Chege.

The authority, established last year by Governor Johnson Sakaja, aims to streamline revenue collection in the city.

Dr Ntoiti, optimistic about his new role, pledged to deliver on his mandate and prioritize the needs of the customer. He aims to ensure a seamless experience for the county government’s clients when seeking services.

Nairobi County reported a revenue collection of Sh3.57 billion in the first half of the current financial year, compared to Sh2.62 billion in the previous financial year.
