Former IEBC chief Chris Msando’s brother passes on
Cornel Peter Msando, brother to the late Christopher Msando, a former ICT manager at the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission, (IEBC) has passed on.
The late Peter Msando was pictured in one of the videos wailing uncontrollably when his brother’s body was identified at a city mortuary in Nairobi.
In an obituary published in the dailies on February 2, 2024, Mr Peter died at M.P. Shah Hospital in Nairobi on January 28, 2024, after a short illness.
The deceased’s family has announced a fundraiser aimed at offsetting his medical and funeral expenses to be held at the All Saints Cathedral on February, 6.
He will be buried on February 10, 2024, at his father’s farm in Siaya without ever securing justice for his brother, Christopher, who was murdered days before the 2017 presidential elections.
An ICT guru, Christopher was reported missing on July 28, 2017, and his body was found together with that of a female accomplice at a thicket in Kikuyu, a few kilometres from Nairobi, days later.
A postmortem conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed Msando died of strangulation.
“He died from strangulation and he also had incisions on his right arm, but the rest of the body was intact,” said Mr Oduor after conducting the autopsy.
His death attracted widespread speculation considering his crucial role in administering the election results.
Despite cries from his young family and aging mother, and consistent assurance from the government, Msando’s killers have never been brought to book and his murder file never resolved.
Peter’s death is a double blow to the Msando family which laid to rest their mum Mary Aloo, aged 85, after she passed on at the Aga Khan hospital in Kisumu on October 13, 2023.
The family said she died after experiencing multiple organ failure.
