Ghanaian striker Afiriye joins Township Rollers after dumping Gor Mahia

Botswana champions Township Rollers have snapped up former Gor Mahia striker Francis Afiriye for free.

Rollers announced on Tuesday that the Ghanaian striker has shifted from Nairobi to Gaborone and penned a two and a half year contract.

“We welcome him to Popa,” the club said a statement.

The 24-year-old left the Kenyan champions unceremoniously after only six months.

During that brief spell, Afiriye scored six goals in eleven appearances for K’Ogalo.

He quit the club following a pay dispute fter going for several months without receiving his salary.

Afiriye is the second player, after Ivorian Yikpe Gieslien, to quit the club in the wake of the finincial crunch at K’Ogalo.

Tanzanian national, Dickson Ambundo, is also rumoured to be on his way out.

Cash-strapped Gor Mahia has struggled since the departure of jersey sponsors SportPesa in August 2019 and had to rely on a government grant in December to pay its players and coaching staff.
