The shop owner is heard shouting that she has already paid for all the necessary licenses and has all the necessary documents. She is soon joined by a group of people who shout at the officer and refuse to be intimidated.
The officer is seen walking back to his vehicle as some members of the public laugh at him.
The shop owner is heard telling the officer that she does not fear police officers from any station and that it is not the right time for them to be at her business.
“It is not even 11pm and you are here, go away and I don’t fear police officers from other stations including Central Police Station and Capitol Hill police station,” she is captured saying in the viral clip.
The incident comes two months after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja revoked licenses for nightclubs and wine and spirit shops operating in residential areas to curb noise pollution.
The governor specified that only joints within the central business district would be allowed to renew their licenses and that music should not be played past 10 pm to allow for a peaceful environment.
This viral video highlights the bravery of individuals who refuse to be intimidated by corrupt officials and stand up for their rights.
It also sheds light on the ongoing issue of bribery in the police force and the need for measures to be put in place to eradicate this corruption.
