Kenyan man arrested for sexually assaulting a 70-year-old woman in US
A Kenyan man was this week arrested after allegedly attacking and sexually assaulting a 70-year-old woman working at the front desk of an upscale apartment building in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
Brian Kibiwot Chuchuney, 30, is said to have approached the window of the complex and knocked at around 4:30 a.m. and the victim mistakenly thought he lived at the complex, so she let him in.
According to local news media outlets, he then approached the desk and asked her several questions, including if he could use the bathroom and get some water.
She said there weren’t any public bathrooms but decided to get him water because she had gotten into trouble a couple of weeks ago for not allowing another resident into the building.
However, the situation took a sinister turn as he followed her, attacked her from behind, and sexually assaulted her. Despite her courageous resistance, Chuchuney overpowered her, dragging her into a nearby storage room where he reportedly sexually assaulted her.
The victim’s loud screams for help ultimately thwarted the assailant, prompting him to flee the scene, leaving behind the woman’s pants and underwear, which he had forcibly taken.
Police later caught him after a short chase. He was arrested, and when detectives talked to him, Chuchuney denied everything. He was later booked into jail on three counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual abuse, one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of assault and one count of theft.
Court paperwork said he was homeless and had “numerous” previous arrests.
In 2018, Chuchuney was arrested after allegedly exposing himself to two women in the Biltmore.
Police reports indicated at the time, Chuchuney allegedly stood in front of a woman who was in her car and exposed himself. The woman managed to drive away and called the police.
Police said that another woman was walking her dog when Chuchuney approached her, saying how cute her dog was. He then reportedly reached out to shake her hand and introduced himself as “Brian.”
He then pulled the woman close to him and used his other hand to expose himself, before running away.
Police soon caught Chuchuney was charged with kidnapping and indecent exposure.
