Kenyan student stabbed by work colleagues in South Africa, family speaks
Enock Wamare Hosea, a Kenyan businessman known by the nickname ‘Blacky,’ has tragically passed away in South Africa under suspicious circumstances.
The 30-year-old, originally hailing from Muhanda in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, is believed to have been fatally stabbed in his residence in Cape Town, allegedly by individuals he was associated with in the taxi business.
According to his family, Wamare had lived in South Africa since 2013, when he was awarded a scholarship from Maseno University to pursue advanced studies in pure accounting at the University of Cape Town.
Late on September 27, Enock’s brother, Washington Obara, received a distressing call from his sister, conveying the tragic news of his brother’s demise.

Friends of the deceased in South Africa revealed that the assailants had driven to his residence and ruthlessly stabbed him to death.
Obara further disclosed that after completing his studies, Wamare had diversified into various businesses, including owning a hairdressing salon a restaurant, and operating a taxi service in Cape Town.
The grieving family is now seeking answers surrounding the mysterious death and is imploring the Kenyan Embassy in South Africa to investigate the motive behind the killing.
They are also determined to see the culprits face justice.
“We demand justice for our late brother. The Kenyan South African Embassy must take up this matter and initiate a thorough investigation. Those responsible must be held accountable,” urged Obare during an interview with Nairobi News.
Additionally, the family is appealing to the Kenyan government for assistance in repatriating Enock Wamare Hosea’s remains from South Africa to Kenya for a proper burial.
Obara is also calling upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the safety concerns of Kenyan citizens living abroad, emphasising, “The government should issue red alerts for countries deemed unsafe for Kenyan nationals. My brother was studying and conducting his business within the boundaries of the law.”
