Maina, Wambui claim top honours at NCBA Golf Series in Ruiru


The 2024 NCBA Golf Series continued its journey this weekend as golf enthusiasts gathered at Ruiru Sports Club for the fourth leg of the tournament. The event attracted over 200 golfers competing for top honors on the par-72 course.

In Division One, the premier category for golfers with handicaps ranging from 1 to 12, Angelus Maina emerged victorious with an impressive score of 36 stableford points, playing off a handicap of 12. Louis Nderi secured the runner-up position with 34 points, competing off a handicap of 11.

Catherine Wambui, playing off handicap 12, claimed victory in the Ladies Division One, after carding a round of 29 points.

In Division Two, Joseph Wairagu, playing off a handicap of 21clinched the top spot among men with a round of 40 points.

In the Ladies’ category in the division, Lucy Njuguna demonstrated her talent, securing victory with 38 points, playing off a handicap of 14.

At the same time, Elias Kiragu, playing off a handicap of 28, emerged victorious in Division Three, finishing with a final score of 35 points.

In addition to the main divisions, several other categories witnessed outstanding performances. Junior golfer Alex Ngugi impressed with 39 points in the junior category, while Harris Maina claimed victory in the guest category with 32 points. Apollo Asol emerged victorious in the Staff competition with 30 points.

Commenting on the success of the event, Tirus Mwithiga, NCBA Group Retail Banking Director, emphasized the significance of the NCBA Golf Series saying, “The NCBA Golf Series serves as a unique opportunity for us to engage with our customers and partners in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, strengthening relationships and fostering a sense of togetherness,” he said.

He added:

“Through this Series, we aim to demonstrate our commitment to supporting activities that matter to our customers, building trust, and creating memorable experiences that go beyond banking. Our involvement in golf also aligns with our broader sustainability platform, Change The Story, through which we have pledged to champion inclusive communities through sport development. The NCBA Golf Series fits into this narrative by providing a platform for inclusive participation, talent development through our junior programs, as well as community engagement.”

Ruiru Sports Club Captain, James Muraguri, expressed gratitude for the successful event and extended appreciation to NCBA for bringing the series to Ruiru. He stated, “The event was very successful, with a great turnout and outstanding performances from all participants. We are immensely grateful to NCBA for choosing Ruiru to be part of the Series which has not only elevated the profile of our club but has also provided an opportunity for golf enthusiasts in our region to showcase their talent. We extend our invitation to NCBA to return to Ruiru in the future, as we look forward to further strengthening our partnership and hosting more successful events together.”

Following the success of the Ruiru event, the NCBA Golf Series will be back on 4th May at the Thika Sports Club.
