Massive blackout to be experienced in 9 counties – Kenya Power
Kenya Power has announced scheduled power interruptions affecting nine counties on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. In a statement released on Tuesday night, the electricity provider stated that these planned interruptions would impact specific areas within each county.
Kiambu County will be the most affected, with multiple areas experiencing the power blackout. These include Kiamara, Ibonia, Kanunga, Kiratina, Turitu, Ngegu, Kasphat, and parts of Kawaida, among adjacent customers.

Machakos County follows, with an extensive list of areas to be affected, including Kyumbi Road, Kenya Israel, Makyau, Canaani, Katheka Kai, Katelembo, Kilima, Kimangu, Mutuku Ngei, Kathome, Kithini, Chai Moto, Makutano Kyumbi, Kyumbi Shrine, Leaders Academy, Mua Hills, Maanzoni and adjacent customers.
Other areas that will be affected in Machakos County include; Nguluni Market, Kisukioni, Katulye, Kikuyuni, Kwa Mwaura, Ngunga and adjacent customers.
Narok County residents in Mamboleo, Kapsasian, Esoit, Ilkerin, Kirindoni, Tumnda, Murkan Junction, Mpata Club, Dikirr and adjacent customers.
Kirinyaga County lists Karaba, Wango, Kilia, Gategi, Marurumo, Ndindiruku, Kumbu Gikuru, and Bonzuki among the affected areas.
More areas that will be affected include Siberia, Kiandegwa, Nganga Secondary School, Karaba Market, Wango Mission, Riakanau Kilia, Musngini, Gategi, Maviani Primary School, Gatwiri, Mururumo, Ndindiruku, Kiumbu, Kakawa, Gakindu and adjacent customers.
West Pokot County includes Ortum, Sina, Sigpr, Cemtech, Sebit, Murpus, Chepkorniswo, Marich Pass, Lomut, Sarmach, and Kainuk.
The following areas in Uasin Gishu County will also be affected; Garage center, Kabatu and adjacent customers.

Isiolo County highlights Asili Millers, Mungania, Lewa, and Ntumburi as impacted areas. Other areas include; Mutunyi, Daichi Farm, Maili Nane, Kweroga, Mungania, Mundanda Primary School, Meru Highland Technical School, Nkado, Kamuketha, Ntumburi, Matunda, Parts of Subuiga and adjacent customers.
In Nyeri County, parts of Kamariga, Ngorano, Kaiyaba, Kanyama, Ngandu, Rititi, Ngaini, Kiangima, and Gatiko will experience the blackout.
More areas that will also be affected within the county based in Mount Kenya Region include; Sagana Village, Iruri, Mutaaga, Karandi, Sagana Fisheries and adjacent customers.
Homa Bay County includes Kobodo Market, Nyamogo Girls, Nyandoto, Ojode Rachar Primary School, God Adundo Primary School, and Otangre Primary School among the affected.
The following areas in Uasin Gishu County will also be affected: Garage center, Kabatu, and adjacent customers.
Lastly, Kisii County lists Kiamokama and Keumbu as the specific areas to be affected. Other areas include; Nyosia, Eremo, Keboba, Gesusu, Nyacheki, Nyabisabo, Ibeno, Nyanturago, Kiamokama Tea Factory, Maji Mazuri, Kionduso, Kebuko, Nyamache, Kiobegi, Gionseri, Tukiamwana, Igare, Emenwa, Nyamagwa, Boitang’are and adjacent customers.
Power outages can impact local businesses, causing financial losses, and residents are urged to take precautions during these scheduled interruptions.
