Millions lost in another Gikomba market fire

Traders in Gikomba market lost goods worth millions of shillings in a Monday night fire incident.

The cause of the fire was not immediately established,  but it is suspected to have resulted from an electric fault.

The market is mainly used by traders dealing in cereals, second-hand clothing, bedding and food outlets.

Firefighter engines from Nairobi city county and another from the Kenya Air Force arrived at the scene and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other unaffected business premises within the area.

Some of the traders who arrived early managed to salvage a few of their goods.

“We don’t know what caused the fire, but people have really lost their investments,” explained a Joshua Mwangi, who is one of the rescuers at the scene.

The raging fire started around 7pm and lasted for more than an hour.
