Mr Seed laments about media stations failure to play Kenyan music

Gospel artiste Mr Seed has echoed comedian Eric Omondi’s play Kenyan music campaign while lamenting about media stations that fail to do so.

In a post on his Instagram stories, Mr Seed complained that a radio station in Kilifi had not played a single Kenyan song despite it being a Kenyan station.

Born Moses Omondi, Mr Seed shared that those artists that were given airplay were not recognising the station, adding that instead, they would play local music.

“I’m listening to a certain radio station in Kilifi, these guys are just playing foreign songs. They have not played any Kenyan music since yesterday and it is a Kenyan radio. You people should start supporting your own musicians’ man…the artists you are playing do not even recognise you,” he said.

Then added, “Kenyan musicians are really putting in work. You can’t say there is no good music that you can play…you could even play music from Mombasa musicians then or will you still argue that there are no artists in Coast?”

Early last year, Eric took to social media to complain about the quality of Kenyan music, calling out the musicians for ‘not doing a good job.’

Hitting out at musicians, Eric rubbed some of them incorrectly, and they exchanged words and punches.

Still uncowed and determined in his mission to have Kenyan media stations play 75 per cent local music, Eric in one of his stints, walked to parliament to have them pass a law in regard.

Despite not being a musician, Eric locked himself inside a ‘transparent cube’ outside parliament buildings to lobby MPs to debate on increasing the local airplay and content.

“I will remain here until they start the debate. This is a hunger strike,” he said.
