NYS scandal: PS Omollo admitted to KNH private wing under tight security
Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo was admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital’s private wing after she was reportedly taken ill in court on Tuesday night.
Ms Omollo was among the 33 suspects charged on Tuesday amid a fresh scandal at the National Youth Service.
On Tuesday, the magistrate had ordered that the PS be remanded with other female suspects implicated in the scandal that saw the agency lose Sh9 billion.
A prisons official at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, who declined to be named as the officer is not allowed to speak to the press, said the PS did not go to the correctional facility but was taken to hospital.
“We took her to the hospital after the court session as she said she was unwell,” the officer said.
On Wednesday, journalists were unable to access the ward where she is said to be admitted under heavy police security.
“The private ward is out of bounds to unauthorised persons, including the media,” said a hospital worker.
The hospital’s acting chief executive Thomas Mutie confirmed she was admitted at the facility, but refused to divulge details on her condition.
