RedFourth Chorus famed for Sauti Sol hit announces closure due to economic challenges

The RedFourth Chorus choir, a beloved musical institution in Kenya, has declared the conclusion of their musical journey.

They are famed for working with Sauti Sol in the release of the hit single Kuliko Jana music video.

The choir cited a range of economic challenges as the primary reasons for their decision, including unpaid dues from clients, debts accrued during the Covid-19 pandemic, insufficient financial support for special needs programs and scholarships, premature business expansion, and the overall difficult economic climate.

The statement read, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of The RedFourth Chorus. Despite our seven years of dedicated service and the incredible support from our community, the financial strain has become insurmountable, leading us to this difficult decision.”

Expressing gratitude to their supporters, the choir acknowledged the growth of the Redfourth Family and their accomplishments over the years.

They emphasised their commitment to inspiring generations and making diverse genres of music accessible to many.

The RedFourth Chorus had been actively involved in special needs programs, scholarships, and mentorship through their various initiatives, leaving a lasting impact on over 1000 youth.

The closure is particularly disheartening as the choir played a pivotal role in providing contemporary, African, and classical music training through the Redfourth Academy of Music.

Unfortunately, economic hardships, including unpaid dues and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, have forced the choir to pause their operations temporarily.

“We find ourselves at a crossroads where we need to reassess and ‘get our pitch right.’ Facing eviction and auction from one of our premises, we must prioritise stabilising our financial situation before resuming normal operations,” the statement explained.

Despite the challenging circumstances, The RedFourth Chorus remains hopeful for a brighter future.

They expressed openness to financial and in-kind support, welcoming donations via M-PESA till number 673054.

The choir concluded on an optimistic note.

“We will be back better, stronger, and wiser. We appreciate the support received so far and look forward to the day we can once again share the joy of music with our community.”
