Ruto appoints businessman Vimal Shah Chancellor of Maasai Mara University


Bidco Oil Refineries CEO Mr Vimal Shah has been entrusted with new roles by President William Ruto in the latest government appointments.

According to the gazette notice dated September 8, the President has appointed Vimal as Chancellor of the Maasai Mara University, for five years, with effect from September 7, 2023.

Vimal, who heads one of the largest manufacturers of edible oils in East and Central Africa, is the former chairperson of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).

The President has also appointed Dr Abdillahi Alawy as the Chairperson of the Board of Agricultural Development Corporation for three years to replace Joseph Rotumoi who was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu has also appointed Rose Towett to be a member of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, for three years.

The CS has at the same time appointed Samir Abdalla, Dr Allan Kihara and Jecinta Kamemba as members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank for three years.

Meanwhile, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumincha has appointed Judith Cherotich as a member of the Board of Directors of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for three years, revoking the current member who was picked by the last administration.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Mr Davis Chirchir has appointed Anthony Gachau Mbuthia, Diba Daudi, Abraham Kipruto and Jennipher Nawoi Long’or as members of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority for three years.

“The appointment of George Mwakule, Moses Murengu Mutuli, Daniel Ndonye, Mercy Muthoni Wambugu and Caroline Gathii is revoked,” Mr Chirchir said.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has appointed George Emoru Emojong as a member of the Council for the Kenya Education Management Institute for three years, while Lands Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru has appointed Dr Orina Nabil Mokaya as the chairperson of the Land Acquisition Tribunal.

Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has also appointed Jane M. Nyoko, Reuben Kiptoo Sigei and Andrew Aligula as members of the Governing Council of Kenya Water Institute, for three years and revoked previous appointments made by Mr Kenyatta’s administration.
